Web Hosting for Starters to Understand for Having a Better Web Host

Any product or service that requires storage or access on the internet will use the services of a web hosting company to do this. Anything that is stored or accessible on the Internet will require some form of storage; sometimes this is even supplied free of charge but is normally part of an overall package. The hosting company has a number of servers, or data centers, where each person is provided with varying amounts of space to store their digital media, including websites; others can then access these files (web pages for example).

Many types exist, some provide free hosting but with these types you pay the price of having restricted facilities that usually allow the likes of blogs, email and basic websites to be accessed. However, if you’re planning to expand you should shift to a paid service as free web hosting only gives you limited space and sub-domains for your site. There will be a large number of companies offering paid hosting but the prices do vary and this is usually down to how much is actually supplied as part of the package; any confusion is normally quite easy to overcome by using one of the internet comparison sites that are becoming very popular.

You may settle for a shared server (where you share your space with other website owners) and it is a good tip is to go for the shared hosting first.Once you are comfortable with the service level then it might be worth upgrading to a dedicated server. With web hosting you get your own web space, but you do need to have a registered domain before you can use it, then you are allocated with enough storage to keep all your files for online publication.

All companies will allocate a certain amount of space for your website and any other files required to be stored there (photos and MP3 tracks, for example) and this can be anything from 500Mb or more, depending on the host and package you are paying for.

Web hosting also provides the facility to have your own email address unlike those supplied by Google and Yahoo for example, this means, your e-mail address is exclusive to your website. If you have a business presence online you cannot afford to have another company’s name at the end of your own e.g. www.yourcompanyname.hostingcompany.com when it should really look like this: www.yourcompanyname.com. If you have a busy site with lots of visitors, downloads or video etc.

What Exactly is Unlimited Bandwidth in Web Hosting?

The web hosting industry has grown exponentially and the main reason behind this is that the service is indispensable if you want to establish an online presence. Two main features that are looked at when opening a web hosting are the bandwidth and disk space offered by the company as well as the type of hosting packages offered by the host.

The disk space is essentially the storage space that is allotted to the user to store the website on the host’s server and the amount of bandwidth refers to the amount of transfer of web pages (from the server to the browsers of your website) that can take place on a monthly basis. Both disk space and bandwidth come with specific price tage and the as the requirements go up, so do the price tags.

Now there are many web hosting providers who claim to offer “unlimited bandwidth” and “unlimited space” with their hosting packages. Before you get lured with the seemingly “unlimited” features, it is important to educate oneself and know what exactly these packages constitute. First of all, it is important to note that the word “unlimited” is nothing but a myth in the web hosting industry. This is because, it is not possible for a web hosting provider to offer unlimited disk space or bandwidth and therefore the entire proposition would be a risky venture. So, now you may be wondering how these unlimited plans come into existence in the first place? Well, the answer is simple. Most web hosts presume that most of the websites would not consume much bandwidth or disk space and thereby leverage this for getting more sign ups.

Therefore, the apparent “unlimited” feature is nothing but a marketing gimmick used by the hosting provider. However, it is advisable not to prejudge a company’s reliability and credibility based on this alone. Read the fine print in its entirety.

The terms and conditions would of course include the details of its features and what exactly would the term “unlimited” imply. So even if the company claims to offer “unlimited” features, it does not necessarily imply that the company would not offer quality hosting services. A thorough analysis of the company therefore becomes imperative.

So if you plan to own a small website, then the unlimited feature may just befit your website requirements. However, if you own a large website that is demanding and receives large number of visitors and includes downloads and other kind of multimedia content, then the unlimited plan would of course not be an advisable option.

Analyze Your Requirements Before Choosing a Host

What is the type of your business?
What type of website do you run? It is a simple html website with a few picture files or is your website loaded with video or MP3 files? Are you an online software vendor?  Do you foresee rapid growth? Do you provide downloads on your website? Remember that the more loaded the site, the more bandwidth you will need on your host package.

How much are you ready to pay?
The most obvious consideration when it comes to choosing a web host. Can you afford only a few dollars a month or are you prepared to blow thousands of dollars in a top-of-the-range dedicated web host plan? Because monthly costs are recurring expenses, don’t simply see short-term, consider the accumulated hosting costs over one year or more.

Traffic and bandwidth
Another important aspect to consider is the amount of traffic your website attracts.  If you run a small, personal website, then a simple, entry-type hosting plan would be enough for your needs.

Start with a reasonably capped host plan and if your website starts attracting more visitors, then upgrade to a higher host plan. Remember that most websites don’t exceed their monthly bandwidth limits, so think efficiency and don’t go for the overkill.

Disk space
As far as disk space is concerned, in themselves simple html and picture files don’t take up much server space and I have found that 5MB disc space is generally more than enough for most medium-size websites.
And emails?

How many email addresses do you need? Many entry host plans offer as standard two email aliases, increasing the number as you move to higher packages.

Think future
Finally you need to bear in mind that websites grow: you add more pages and your traffic grows as you move higher in search rankings. So I suggest you choose a host package that allows for flexibility and allows you to upgrade as you go along.

3 Steps To Find a Good Website Hosting Provider in INDIA

There are thousands of web hosting companies with all kinds of offerings, and lots of marketing traps that new webmasters may easily fall into. We have seen lots of webmasters moving from one web host to another since they started getting their website online, and it generally takes a few rounds before they can finally settle down with a web host.

Please contact MITUL BHAVSAR: +91-9825095314 (Vodafone, INDIA) or email: Mitul@designwebgraphic.com or you can also contact us online through our website – www.designwebgraphic.com

This trial and error approach is costly, as most of the time that should be used to focus in the website development, is being occupied by these repeating task of moving and checking of new web host. A smart webmaster that have made the correct choice initially may have already seeing some success in the website since time is spent wisely on building traffic for the website instead of busy moving it from one web host to another. How can we minimize the error of making the wrong choice of web hosting provider initially? Well, here is a simple three step approach that can help any webmaster to find the web host that fits. List down all your own expectations and requirements.

You need to understand what you really need before searching for any web host, take a piece of paper and list down your own expectations from your soon to be web hosting partner, for example, since you are new to everything, you would prefer to have a much more friendly and patience, dedicated support staff that can guide you along while you are setting up your website etc. List down as much as possible so that you understand what you really want from your web host, this is important step as most people tends to skip this process and ended up in the trial and error approach mentioned earlier.Get recommendations from experience webmasters.Once you have done yourself brainstorming sessions and got yourself the long list of questions, you can ask around for genuine recommendations of web hosting that fits you, be sure to get recommendations from experience webmasters that has been building websites for several years. Try shortlist about five web hosts that you think would fit you, do some research online to ensure you are short listing those that receive more good than bad remarks from general webmasters. This is another important step; even though a web host is getting 10 out of 10 good remarks from other webmasters, you should still personally check it out before committing, because every webmaster is unique and you will only know if the web host will fit you after personally check them out.

Take out the long list of questions you have done up in step one, and send them to each of the shortlisted web host, then carefully go through the responses, you’ll be surprise you can still able to filter out some of them, particularly those that is providing ‘canned replies’ those that do not provide the answer that is up to your expectations, and identify the one that you are feeling most comfortable hosting with.
