MS Dhoni Happy at Seniors Return for Asia Cup Cricket Match

Playing at the highest level is the only way young Indian bowlers can bridge the gap between international and domestic cricket, according to Indian skipper MS Dhoni. “There is a huge difference between domestic and international cricket. Only by playing at the highest level will our younger bowlers be able to bridge the gap. The series has given us an opportunity to play youngsters and prepare them for international cricket,” Dhoni said at the unveiling ceremony of the Asia Cup trophy on Monday.

“I am not here to analyze our performance in Zimbabwe. We lost to Zimbabwe but we beat Sri Lanka. But you have to understand that we have had fitness issues with our bowlers and we do not have experienced pacemen. The series in Zimbabwe gave us a chance to play young fast bowlers,” Dhoni said.

“If just before the World Cup (2011) one of our main bowlers gets injured then we need bowlers to replace him. The Zimbabwean series gave exposure to such bowlers.”

Dhoni also expressed relief that seniors players who were rested during the Zimbabwean series are back for the Asia Cup. “It is good to have the senior players back. They have worked on their fitness. During the break they have also worked on their skills, which they couldn’t have done during the season. I am confident that they will perform to their potential.”
