Industry Leaders Announce Open Platform to Bring Web to TV with Google TV
Today at the Google I/O developer conference in San Francisco, leading industry players announced the development of Google TV—an open platform that adds the power of the web to the television viewing experience, ushering in a new category of devices for the living room. Intel, Sony, and Logitech, together with Best Buy, DISH Network and Adobe, joined Google on stage to announce their support for Google TV.
Over the past decade, the Internet has created unprecedented opportunity for innovation and development across the world, but so far the web has largely been absent from living rooms. With Google TV, consumers will now be able to search and watch an expanded universe of content available from a variety of sources including TV providers, the web, their personal content libraries, and mobile applications.
Google TV is based on the Android platform and runs the Google Chrome web browser. Users can access all of their usual TV channels as well as a world of Internet and cloud-based information and applications, including rich Adobe® Flash based content – all from the comfort of their own living room and with the same simplicity as browsing the web. When coupled with the Intel Atom processor CE4100, Intel’s latest system-on-a-chip designed specifically for consumer electronics, the new platform will offer home theatre quality A/V performance. Sony and Logitech said they would be delivering products based on the new Intel Atom processor and running Google TV later this year. While Google TV is designed to work with any TV operator, at launch the user experience will be fully optimized when paired with DISH Network.
Google TV expands video choice from the hundreds of channels available today through a pay TV provider to the vast storehouse of video content available through the web and streaming videos. The Google TV experience is complemented by the ability to watch streaming video from leading content platforms, including Netflix, Amazon Video On Demand, and YouTube. Google TV will also have the capability to run apps from the Android Market.
To navigate the array of content that will now be available through a single device and on a single screen, Google TV introduces an integrated search experience to help viewers easily find relevant content across over-the-air and pay-TV channel listings, DVR, and the Internet, as well as a picture-in-picture layout to access multiple windows simultaneously. Google TV also features an innovative home screen to help viewers quickly organize their favorite content and personalize their TV viewing experience. Some of these features are only available with advanced integration from DISH Network.

Google Celebrates Pacman’s 30th Anniversary via Cutsomized Homepage
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the legendary Pac man arcade game, Google has gone all out. Their home page customization has always been an eye catcher but they’ve outdone themselves this time. Not only has the Google logo been customized into the Pacman video game frame, but viewers can also play the game complete with original arcade sounds and progress though levels collecting points.
It seemed like with Google’s Chrome browser the game content loaded much faster than in other browsers like Firefox and Safari where it took a few seconds more.
Just head on over to Google’s homepage and if it doesn’t show up immediately just wait a few seconds.
Happy 30th Pacman.

Google Earth Now Available Inside Google Maps
For those of you who have wondered why Google Earth was a separate application, and just wished you could get to the same type of view through your browser: You’re in luck.
Google today announced a new feature in Google Maps that brings the interactive 3D view of Earth directly to your browser. What’s the catch? Well, it requires the Google Earth plugin, but once you have that, you can use pretty much any browser you like. If you have Google Chrome, you’re already set.
You can view the new map view by clicking on the “Earth” button at the top of a map. You will be flown directly into a Google Earth view where you are able to zoom and pan around with your mouse, or on-screen controls. Neat.
Facebook Beats Google as US Most-Visited Website
Facebook has become the most-visited site in the US after beating former titleholder Google.
The popular social networking page toppled the search giant after accounting for 7.07 per cent of all US web traffic compared to Google’s 7.03 per cent, web analysts Hitwise revealed.
“It’s definitely a big moment for Facebook, even though they beat by a small margin,” News.com.au quoted Hitwise’s Matt Tatham as telling CNN.
He added: “People want information from friends they trust, versus the anonymity of a search engine.”
The research did not include other Google services such as Gmail and YouTube.

Google Launches Newer, More Stable Chrome
After a bit of evolution and lots of work from the team, Google’s thrilled to introduce a new stable version of Chrome for Windows, Mac and Linux. Since last December, they’ve been chipping away at bugs and building in new features to get the Mac and Linux versions caught up with the Windows version, and now they’ve finally announce that the Mac and Linux versions are ready for use.
Google has improved Chrome by 213 percent and 305 percent in Javascript performance by the V8 and SunSpider benchmarks since their very first beta, back in Chrome’s Cretaceous period (September 2008).
You may also notice that today’s new stable release comes with a few new features, including the ability to synchronize browser preferences across computers, new HTML5 capabilities and a revamped bookmark manager.
